The National Gallery of Australia and Ooh Media made a joint announcement about a major partnership to display works completed by women artists for an Australia wide outdoor art event for 2020. Starting from the 24th of February 2020, images of works of art from more than 40 Australian women artists from the national collection, will be displayed through more than 1300 billboards and digital sign boards for a 6 week period, as a part of a Know My Name project.
The Know My Name project is an initiative started by the National Gallery of Australia, which is aimed to identify as women from a program of intergenerational, vibrant exhibition and events, which are conducted through collaborations of numerous arts and media organizations in the country.
Alison Wright, the Assistant Director for the National Gallery of Australia, stated that the media network operated by Ooh!, had given the event a powerful platform to push the artwork beyond the physical walls of the gallery, which allows viewership for people across the country, not only in major cities, but also to regional areas.
Initiative Looks to Boost Equality Conversation
Wright said: “The partnership means we can increase the access and visibility of women artists who have shaped our culture. It’s time we all made an effort to recognize the creative achievements of Australian women.”
Neil Ackland, the Chief Content & Creative Officer for Ooh! stated that the collaboration between the company and the National Gallery would provide the Know My Name initiative a capable platform, which would provide the best female artists in Australia a chance to show their works to everyday Australians.
He stated: “oOh! is pleased to be able to use our network to be a part of the equality conversation through this important initiative. The initiative is a great example of how we can transform public spaces for the better by leveraging our network to captivate and educate Australians all around the country with these extraordinary works of art.”
The list of participating artists in the event will be announced in February 2020.
